Salisbury is a large city in southeastern Maryland. It is located about 100 miles south of Baltimore and 130 miles north of Virginia Beach, Virginia. As of 2016, there were approximately 33,114 people living in Salisbury according to the United States Census Bureau. It is the 9th largest city in Maryland and the largest city in Wicomico County. In addition to being the largest city in Wicomico County, Salisbury serves as the seat of government.
Salisbury is located in an area that was originally inhabited by Native American Indians. John Smith became one of the first Europeans to arrive in the area of modern-day Salisbury in 1608. By 1732, Salisbury was operating as an established community and well-known trading spot. Today, Salisbury remains a popular city and one of the largest cities in eastern Maryland.
Modern-day Salisbury is a charming and beautiful city. It is known as the Capital of the Eastern Shore. Residents enjoy access to beautiful parks, art galleries and studios, a variety of restaurants and shops, and a number of events. From 2018 – 2022, Salisbury will host the National Folk Festival. This large-scale event lasts several days and is free to the public. Attendees will be introduced to a variety of musicians, dancers, and others.
